The night desk logs off at six. The morning desk sits down at seven.
In between, a reporter calls back expecting the answer the night desk promised. Nobody on the morning desk knows there was a promise.
Shift handover note English APAC is the three-line note one desk leaves the next: what is still open, what was promised and what to watch.
Street-smart APAC English: short sentences a tired operator can say out loud.
It stops the callbacks from our press holding line English APAC from falling through the gap. If anything happened on shift, the incident log English APAC holds the detail, and the handover points to it.
What goes in a shift handover note English APAC?
Three lines. Open, promised, watch. Each one specific enough to act on without calling the last shift.
Handover note (illustrative):
“Open: the assignment desk at a Manila daily wants a quote on the drainage petition. Draft is in the shared folder, not approved.”
“Promised: callback to that reporter by 10am.”
“Watch: comments on last night’s post are rising. Pinned reply is up. Escalate if it spreads.”
The open line says where things stand. The promised line lists every commitment with a time. The watch line says what could blow up.

Why three lines and not a full report?
Because the next desk reads it in the first minute, with coffee, before the phone rings. Three lines get read. A report gets skimmed.
| Kill this | Say this (illustrative) | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Quiet night, nothing much | Open: one press query, draft not approved. | Nothing is ever nothing |
| Some reporter called | Promised: callback to the assignment desk by 10am. | Who and when |
| Check the chat for updates | Watch: comments rising on last night’s post. | No digging |
| FYI lots happening | See the incident log, 20:12 and 21:40. | Points to the record |
| I’ll explain tomorrow | Reachable until 7am on Viber, then offline. | A clear boundary |

Where should the note live?
In one fixed place both desks check first: the top of the shared channel or a pinned doc. Not in a private message.
Write it before you log off, not after. Pin it. The incoming desk replies “Got it” so the outgoing desk knows it landed. If no reply comes within the agreed time, the outgoing desk calls.
What if something urgent is still running?
Do a live handover first, a short call or face to face, then leave the written note. Urgent items never get handed over by text alone.
Live handover line (illustrative):
“One urgent thing: the holding line is out and the full statement is with counsel. I’ll stay on for fifteen minutes while you read in.”
How does this play out in PH and SG?
Same three lines. Different hours and channels.
Philippines desk. Teams often run on Viber or WhatsApp groups without fixed office hours. Pin the handover at the top of the group. Write it in English so every desk reads one version, even if the chat runs in Taglish.
Singapore and wider APAC desk. Desks may hand over across time zones, from Singapore to another market. Use one time zone in the note and name it, and say which desk owns each promise after the handover.
Paste-ready lock
Three lines to pin before you log off.
Paste-ready lock (illustrative):
“Open: what is unfinished, and where the draft sits.”
“Promised: every callback or delivery, with a time.”
“Watch: what could grow, and what triggers escalation.”

Monday field kit
- Three lines: open, promised, watch.
- Written before log-off and pinned in one place.
- The incoming desk confirms receipt.
- Urgent items get a live handover as well.
- Kill rule: if the next desk has to call you to understand the note, rewrite it before you leave.
What to do this week
- Agree the three-line format with every desk.
- Pick the one place handovers live.
- Set the confirm-receipt rule and its time limit.
- Review last week’s handovers and find one promise that slipped.
Kill rule: if a promise is missing from the handover, the outgoing desk still owns it.

Three lines, one sentence each. Detail lives in the log or the folder it points to.
What if nothing happened on shift?
Write the three lines anyway: “Open: none. Promised: none. Watch: nothing flagged.”
Who owns a promise after the handover?
The incoming desk, once it confirms receipt. Until then, the outgoing desk does.
