When online harm is the story, the fastest post is often the wrong one.
Rapid-response slot English is the wording for each slot on a harm-week calendar: the label your team sees, and the post the public sees. It informs. It points to help. It does not repeat the worst clip or the loudest rumor.
This is the language companion to our rapid-response content calendar when online harm is the story playbook. That one covers hold-versus-publish gates, same-day slots, newsjack rules, and staffing. This one gives you the words on the calendar and in the post.
Street-smart APAC English: short sentences a tired operator can say out loud.
What does rapid-response slot English call each calendar slot?
Call it by its job, not its mood. The label should tell a tired editor what is allowed.
The parent piece sets out the slots: fact brief, resource card, correction window, stakeholder note, and a hard stop. Here is the rapid-response slot English for each.
| Slot | Kill this label | Say this label | What is allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | “Breaking!!” | “FACT BRIEF: confirmed only” | Facts from named authorities. No footage. |
| B | “Awareness post” | “HELP CARD: resources, what not to share” | Help lines and sharing guidance |
| C | “Rumor response” | “CORRECTION: open only if a rumor spikes” | Confirmed versus not confirmed |
| D | “Partner update” | “PARTNER NOTE: internal first” | A brief for allies, not the feed |
| Stop | “Late push” | “HARD STOP: no new public posts” | Corrections only |
“Awareness” is the word that lets graphic footage in the door. Take it off the calendar.

How do you write a fact brief that does not amplify?
Say what is confirmed, who confirmed it, and what you will not show. In that order.
Pattern, illustrative only:
Authorities have confirmed [fact].
We will update this post when they confirm more.
We will not share graphic footage.
- Say: “Confirmed by [named authority] at [time].”
- Say: “Here is what is not confirmed yet.”
- Kill: details of method or weapon. The parent’s rule is context that reduces rumor without detailing methods.
- Kill: the attacker’s name, handle, or online persona in headlines. Do not hand anyone lore.
- Kill: “shocking,” “horrific,” “you won’t believe.” Adjectives do the amplifying for you.
Which online harm post English should nobody on the team use?
The refusal list, written as sentences you can pin. The parent piece says to state the refusal out loud in your guidelines and in a pinned note.
| Kill this | Why it harms | Say this instead |
|---|---|---|
| “Sharing so people know how bad it is” | Spreads the footage the harm depends on | “We won’t share the footage. Here is what is confirmed.” |
| “Reports say the attacker was…” | Rumor wearing a borrowed byline | “Not confirmed. We will update when authorities confirm.” |
| “Is this the student in the video?” | Puts a minor at risk | Say nothing. Report it to the platform. |
| “Our thoughts are with… shop our sale” | Newsjacks grief | Condolence only, or silence. |
| “The toll keeps rising!” | Turns harm into a scoreboard | “Authorities have confirmed [fact] as of [time].” |

This applies to personal accounts that speak for the org too. The parent piece is blunt about it: staff sharing gore privately while the brand moralizes still loses.
What do you post when you have decided not to post?
A holding card. Short, calm, and honest about what you are not doing.
The parent piece supplies template lines editors can lean on. Here is the holding card English, street-smart version:
We are checking facts with authorities.
We will not share graphic footage.
If you are struggling, help is here: [help line or page].
That fills the silence without feeding it. It also tells your audience your standard before anyone asks.
Store it in the CMS with counsel sign-off already done. Nobody should be drafting it for the first time at 11pm.

How should corrections read when a rumor moves faster than you?
Timestamped, boring, and linkable. Confirmed and not confirmed, side by side.
Update [time]: A claim about [topic] is circulating. It is not confirmed.
What is confirmed: [fact], from [named authority].
- Say “not confirmed,” not “fake news.” “Fake news” starts a fight. “Not confirmed” ends one.
- Put the confirmed fact first. Do not repeat the rumor in the headline.
- Do not quote-post the account spreading the rumor. That is reach you just donated.
Monday field kit
- Rename the calendar slots: FACT BRIEF, HELP CARD, CORRECTION, PARTNER NOTE, HARD STOP.
- Delete “awareness” from every template.
- Pre-write the holding card and get counsel sign-off. Store it in the CMS.
- Pin the refusal list for every account holder, including personal accounts that speak for the org.
- Keep one current help-resources line, checked by a named owner.
- Run one tabletop: rumor spike plus a graphic clip. Time how fast the holding card goes up.
Communications craft, not legal advice. Defamation, minor protection, and platform takedown questions need counsel on call.
FAQs
What is rapid-response slot English?
It is the wording for each slot on a harm-week content calendar: the internal label and the public post. It helps a team inform and point to help without repeating graphic footage or rumor.
What should we post during an online-harm incident?
Post confirmed facts from named authorities, help resources, and what you will not share. If you are unsure, post a short holding card and update when facts are confirmed.
How do we correct a rumor without spreading it?
Lead with the confirmed fact, label the rumor “not confirmed,” and timestamp the update. Do not repeat the rumor in the headline or quote-post the account spreading it.
Should brand accounts post at all?
Often a short condolence, or silence, is the right call. Speak only if your organisation has relevant expertise or services, and never pair grief with a product.
