Lav-Check line English APAC, Manila: Tap once, say check, wait for clear.
Tap once.

Lav-check line English APAC is the sound desk’s short mic rule before speakers walk on: tap once, say check, wait for clear.

Street-smart APAC English: short sentences a tired operator can say out loud.

A Jakarta panel stage, three minutes to doors.
A speaker whispers into the lav and walks on.
The first question lands on a dead channel and a waved hand from sound.

Quick answer: A lav-check line English APAC is the sound desk’s mic rule: tap once, say check, wait for clear. Run it for every lav before stage, so no speaker opens on silence.

Pair it with the headset-check line English APAC for crew comms and the spare-battery line English APAC when packs need a fresh cell. Good event language at the lav keeps every panel voice on the desk before the walk.

What goes in a lav-check line English APAC?

Three parts. Tap once, say check, wait for clear.

Lav-check line (illustrative):
“Tap the lav once so we see the meter move.”
“Say check in your normal speaking voice.”
“Wait for clear from sound before you walk.”

Speakable lock (illustrative): “Tap once, say check, and wait for clear.”

Wait for clear matters most. A tap without a spoken clear still leaves a muted channel or a wrong pack, and the speaker finds out in front of the room.

What should sound stop saying during a lav check?

Stop saying just talk normally and start asking for tap, check, clear. Talk normally is vague and often whispered. Ask for one tap, one spoken check, and hold the walk until sound says clear.

Kill this Say this (illustrative) Why
Just talk normally, we hear you. Tap the lav once so we see the meter move. A visible tap
Sige po, testing testing lang. Say check in your normal speaking voice. A real level
Ok lah, meter moved, can go. Wait for clear from sound before you walk. Spoken clear
Ay, okay na yan, pasok na. Hold the walk until sound says clear on headset. Clear first
Whisper also fine, sensitive one. Use your normal voice; whispers hide a bad pack. Normal voice

When should each lav check happen?

After the lav is clipped and the pack is on, and again after any battery swap. Put the check on the run sheet before doors and before each panel reset. New speakers get the same three beats even if the last panel was fine. If a speaker swaps jackets or repositions the mic, rerun tap and check before the next open.

What if the meter moves but sound still hears nothing useful?

Say not clear, check the mute, the pack channel and the cable, then rerun tap and check. Do not send the speaker on a maybe. Swap to a spare lav if the second check fails, and only then say clear. Keep the speaker at the wing mark until clear is spoken on the sound channel.

How does this play out on PH, SG and Bangkok desks?

Same three parts. Different desks.

Philippines desk. In Manila and across the Philippines, panelists often wear borrowed lavs. Brief with po: tap once po, say check po, wait for clear po. Keep clear in English on the sound channel so every stage manager hears the same release.

Singapore desk. In Singapore, lav checks are fast and expected. Keep the line in plain English, run tap-check-clear for every speaker, and never waive clear because the clock is tight. If a panel has four lavs, clear them in seat order so the desk and the stage manager share one list.

Bangkok desk. In Bangkok, greet speakers with khrap or kha, then the same three beats in English and Thai. Keep a spare lav taped and ready at the sound desk so a failed check swaps in under a minute.
